Ad Policy

TOKYO 23 is a free information site funded by advertising. To keep advertising from undermining trust in the content, we hold to the following.

1. What we run

Advertising is served through Google AdSense. Which ads appear is decided automatically by Google's systems; the operator does not select individual advertisers.

2. Separating ads from content

  • Every ad slot carries an "Advertisement" label.
  • Ads are never styled to look like content or navigation.
  • Ads are never placed where they invite accidental clicks.
  • We do not crowd a page with an excessive number of ads.

3. Editorial independence

Not one of the 74 places on this site has paid to be here. We do not accept payment for inclusion, adjust rankings, or reword a description in a venue's favour. Should we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly marked "Advertisement" or "Sponsored" at the top of the page.

4. Affiliate links

We currently use no affiliate (performance-based) links. If we adopt them, such links will be labelled and this page updated.

5. No invalid clicks

We do not click our own ads or have associates do so, do not ask or encourage users to click, and do not generate clicks by automated means — all of which would breach Google AdSense programme policy.

6. Advertising cookies

Cookies are used in serving ads. See the Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy for detail and how to opt out.

7. Reporting an inappropriate ad
