Local Knowledge

Obvious to locals, invisible to visitors

There is a simple reason guidebooks leave this out: to the people who live here it is too obvious to be worth explaining.

How to order
Before the curry arrives, you get boiled potato with butter

Before the curry arrives, you get boiled potato with butter — free, and some regulars come mainly for it. Eating the potato while you wait is simply how this place works.

The backstory
Founded 1978

Founded 1978. By building curry on a French brown sauce with fruit, vegetables and its own spice blend, it is credited with creating the 'European-style curry' genre — the reason Jimbocho became a curry pilgrimage site.

Unwritten rule
Three heat levels

Three heat levels. This is a curry built on aroma rather than burn, so there is no need to push for the hottest.

What it is

Chiyoda is a ward where government offices meet the old-book quarter. It may open only for lunch, or close the moment ingredients run out. Supply outranks the posted hours here. Portions run generous — think twice before upsizing. Around two in the afternoon, once the lunch peak has passed, is the quietest window. Keep the receipt — it makes the name easy to look up later, since many signs are kanji-only. This is one of those places that beats its photos. People often arrive with low expectations and leave surprised.

What to order

Why locals keep coming

The layout suits solo diners: mostly counter seats, and nobody encourages you to linger. Turnover is fast — food arrives quickly and twenty minutes is enough from sitting to standing.
