Obvious to locals, invisible to visitors
There is a simple reason guidebooks leave this out: to the people who live here it is too obvious to be worth explaining.
An art-supply house in the middle of the book quarter. Its stone facade survives intact and draws visitors on its own; locals treat it as the place to go when the bookshops wear you out.
It is not only for professionals — the ground floor is full of stationery and gifts, with serious art materials on the upper floors and a gallery cafe above that.
What it is
Chiyoda is a ward where government offices meet the old-book quarter. An hour vanishes between entering and leaving. Best not to schedule anything straight afterwards. Stock turns over weekly. One visit is not enough to judge the place. Weekday mornings are calmest; expect to queue at weekend lunch. Leave large bags in a station locker; there is not much room inside. Rather than anchoring your itinerary, it slots naturally into the gaps between other stops.
